Demijohn
These antique demijohns, also known as carboys, are large bottles that originated in France in the 17th century. They were made by hand blowing glass to reach their desired shape and mainly used to ferment beverages, such as wine, mead and molasses in large quantities. Their sizes vary and the large ones can reach over two feet in height.
Demijohns have been used for centuries across Europe, when whatever liquid was bottled a crate would be built around the bottle to make transportation easier, we have two examples of the bottles with their exterior packaging available along with two without.
As with all antique and used items, there can be minor scratching and chips due to age.
