Vintage Applique Egyptian Wall Hanging.
This type of wall hanging began to be imported from Egypt or made in the home when the interest of all things Egyptian started in the Victorian era as a result of more international travel. The interest in Egyptology was intensified by the opening of Tutenkhamen's Tomb in 1922.
This wall hanging was made circa 1920, crafted with an applique technique, the colours - still vibrant today- are natural homemade vegetable dyes and the cotton, bandages from WW1, sewn onto a black cotton background.
Measurements: Height 160cm, Width 130cm.
Brass rings are stitched to the top for hanging.
Condition is excellent, some very small holes to be seen in the central figures skirt, nothing to compromise the stability of the hanging.
