We were engaged to design a new classical house for a fine parkland setting in the New Forest. Initially, our proposals considered the wholesale re-cladding of the existing Edwardian villa, but over time these developed to a wholly new replacement building.
As we developed our proposals slowly, the client wanted to see a variety of thoughts for material; eventually, in response to the local vernacular, we settled on brick as the principle material, with rubbed brick quoins and relatively simple architectural detail with the exception of two fine carved stone doorcases. The use of CGI was invaluable as a design tool during this project.
The project is being built on a phased development, and an extensive range of outbuildings has been completed. Detailed drawings for the main house are being developed.
